Linda says...I am proud to be a long time member of Martinez Horsemen's Association. This non-profit club works hard to put on fundraisers that benefit great organizations and causes. There is a somewhat small group of hard working members who put in long hours planning these functions. It is a love for horses that bonds us together. You all are the best.

Hi there,
I was also at the battle of the barns.....what a fun day. Just wanted to bring to your attention something about your opening ceremony. You had the ladies walk in with an american flag, california flag, and I believe a club flag. During the national anthem, the ladies dipped the american flag(s) and not the other two....big no no!!! You NEVER dip an american flag.....only clubs and californias. just wanted you to know if you do another flag ceremony in the future....

Dear Martinez Horsemen’s Association,
Thank you for hosting this year’s Battle of the Barns. Our team had an outstanding time and I know there was a tremendous effort put into the event and we greatly appreciate it. While most of the day went without any problems, there was an unfortunate accident during the ribbon ceremony that could more than likely have been avoided that I wanted to bring to your attention as a safety concern.
One of our riders had a daughter attend the event that day who was asked by a representative of Martinez Horsemen’s Association if she would help pass out ribbons to the riders. That was a very nice gesture, but put her in the position to get hurt, unfortunately. A Martinez rider, who rode two different horses in the competition that day, decided to bring both horses in during the ribbon ceremony. It is our understanding that she rode both horses in the classes that day because one of her horses was deemed unsafe to be ridden in one of the classes. It seems unwise to pony a horse into an arena with people nearby when that horse has been deemed unsafe. The rider was heard to say as she rode in ponying the second horse, “I’m doing this for training.” The ribbon ceremony seems a highly inappropriate time to be doing any training.
According to the girl who was struck, when the rider lost control of her horse, she was warned to move, but she did not know which way to go, was not taken out of harms way by an adult, and as a result was stepped on by the rider's horse. Based on eye witness accounts, I am not sure how much warning she really had since she was struck from behind and everyone in the arena seemed taken by surprise. Luckily, she did not have any bones broken, but was badly scraped and has a hoof print bruise on her calf. This accident could have been much worse. To date, the rider has never spoken to the child or her family to find out how badly she was hurt or to apologize. The lack of responsibility on the rider's part speaks volumes for her character.
In the future, if a child is asked to help hand out awards and ribbons, it would be wise if two things are handled differently by Martinez Horsemen's Association: 1) Ask clearly for the parent's permission and 2) Make sure that an adult is right next to the child at all times in order to support or remove them from a dangerous situation.
Again, this was an unfortunate accident in an otherwise wonderful day. Our team truly enjoy participating and supporting such a wonderful cause.
Thank you for your time.

As a spectator at you "Battle of the Barns" I enjoyed watching the teams compete in all of the creative events that you came up with. It was a fun day for all that particapated as well as those of us who spectated. The proceeds all went to a good cause. However I was shocked when I heard the anouncement of the Matinez team winning the award for best theme. What about the dwarfs or the pirates on the skeleton horses? They both clearly spent more time, effort, and creative energy toward the theme. The team that won (the hosting team?) did little more than show up and dust off their horses. Of coarse I know that in the big picture of the world, this is a very insignifigent deal. But if you want to continue get people from outside to participate in future events, I would suggest not giving an award to the hometown team just because they are the hometown team.
Sincerly, Howard Hoeflein

We have opened a Therapeutic Riding School - OVER The REINbow. It's here in Martinez. I have completed my NARHA Certified Riding Instructorship. We have been open since 9/08. We are a 501c3 organization and we still have spaces for our spring session and are taking applications for summer and fall.
We are not competeing with Zenophon or any of the other fine programs in the area. We just wanted to let you know about us and hope you'll mention us to anyone you know who may be looking for a program. We serve children, adolescents and adults with disabilities.
Stop by if you're dring down Franklin Canyon Road. First horses on the left after Alhambra AV.

I have a 17" Australian saddle with horn, seldom used, excellent condition. Will trade for a 16"-17" full quarter horse bars western saddle. Prefer a cordura like. Thanks call 925 212-5481.
